Meet Zafar Hussain – New Postdoctoral Fellow at CHC

Zafar joined CHC as a Postdoctoral Fellow in September 2025, bringing with him a strong background in machine learning and particular expertise in Natural Language Processing.

With a Master’s degree in Data Science and a PhD on the topic of “Learning Command Syntax and Detecting Similarities for Enhanced Cybersecurity through Data Analysis,” Zafar’s academic journey reflects both technical depth and a strong interest in applied AI. Prior to joining CHC, he worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Helsinki, where he continued to expand his knowledge of generative models.

At CHC, Zafar is part of the Aarhus NLP group, where his work focuses on fine-tuning large language models for cultural alignment and preference optimisation. These projects are at the forefront of NLP research, and he’s especially excited by the opportunity to contribute to technically challenging and intellectually rewarding tasks that have real-world impact.

Originally from Pakistan, Zafar brings both an international academic background and a strong technical profile to CHC. When he’s not immersed in the world of language models, he’s likely to be discussing cricket. With expertise in both machine learning and modern generative AI, he is always happy to support colleagues working in these areas.

We’re very pleased to have him on board and look forward to his contributions to the Aarhus NLP group and CHC.
