EuroHPC call for declarations of interest for Q4 2023

AU has 9,9 mil. CPU-core-hours and 6 mil. GPU-core-hours on the EuroHPC computer LUMI for the entirety of 2023. This is intended to give researchers the opportunity to get started with the system with a later application through EuroHPC in mind. The HPC-forum now invite brief declarations of interest for these resources, addressing the following (approximately 5 lines per point):

  1. The project for which the resources will be used.
  2. Concrete need calculated in CPU-core-hours, GPU-core-hours (if relevant), and TBH storage (https://docs.lumi-supercomputer.eu/runjobs/lumi_env/billing/).
  3. Why and when the project will be ready to use LUMI.
  4. What is the group’s composition (students, Ph.d.s, postdocs, AC-TAPs, further VIPs) and how will the work be portioned out (who will be perform calculations, who will be responsible for code set up)?
  5. Outline the project members’ experience and skills working with HPC.

Declarations of interest are to be sent by the group leader/network leader along with a CV/list of publications for any VIPs involved. All these documents must be gathered into ONE pdf.
Please note: application in DeiC format is a valid alternative to the above – for instance if an application was submitted for the October call, but was rejected.

For this call, we’re operating with two forms of allocation:
•    Large projects > 100,000 CPU core hours
•    Mini pilot/sandbox projects approximately 10,000 CPU core hours
The purpose behind mini pilot/sandbox projects is to begin compiling and build familiarity with the environment ahead of a future, larger, allocation. A mini pilot/sandbox project has a high chance of allocation but is only intended for researchers who intend to progress to larger LUMI usage in the future.

The declarations of interest will be read and evaluated by representatives of AU’s HPC-forum, while Sara Marie Westh (AU’s Resource Allocator for LUMI) will handle the practical tasks (account creation, etc.).

The deadline for declarations of interest is Thursday, October 18th, 2023, at 12:00 PM. NB. In the case that the DeiC schedule for resource allocation is revised, this deadline too will be adjusted.

The declaration and possible questions are to be sent to samawe@au.dk. The HPC-forum expects to have finished assessing the applications by Tuesday, October 25th, 2023.

A call for Q1 resources is expected to be published mid-December.
