Meet Marta “Mika” Kipke – New Postdoctoral Researcher at CHC
We are pleased to welcome Marta Kipke, who has recently joined the Center for Humanities Computing as a Postdoctoral Researcher on the Golden Matrix project.
Marta comes to us with an academic background in classical archeology and art history Her interdisciplinary curiosity led her to explore everything from Byzantine studies to computer science during her studies - an intellectual range that continues to inform her work today.
Holding a PhD in Digital Humanities, she describes herself as “a translator of sorts - translating humanities research questions into computational workflows and using the results to generate new insights into culture and the past.” Her research has explored everything from painter attribution on Attic vase paintings to the broader epistemic value of machine learning methods in humanities scholarship.
At CHC, Marta focuses on developing research questions from a humanities perspective and designing computational methods to address them. Her day-to-day work involves writing scientific papers, attending conferences, and engaging in collaborative dialogue with colleagues across disciplines - something she especially values about the CHC environment. “The collaborative spirit and the friendly atmosphere are truly inspiring,” she says. “You can strike up a conversation with anybody and learn so many interesting things about their research.”
A native of Germany, Marta spent her youth in Schleswig-Holstein before moving to Göttingen for her studies. At work, you’ll likely find her at her desk with a cup of tea, surrounded by personal touches that make the space feel like home - always ready for a discussion or to provide feedback on a paper draft.
We’re thrilled to have Marta join us and look forward to the contributions she will make to the Golden Matrix project and the CHC community.
