Visiting PhD: Rebecca Hicke
We are happy to introduce Rebecca who has joined us from the US as a research assistant for a few months over the summer.
Rebecca Hicke is a second year Ph.D. student in Computer Science at Cornell University, where she is advised by David Mimno. Her research interests lie in Natural Langauge Processing, Digital Humanities, and Cultural Analytics.
Specifically, she studies how large language models may be applied to the study of literary texts, with a dual interest in learning more about literature itself and using literary texts as challenging test cases with which to explore the real-world capabilities of LLMs.
In 2022, she graduated from Carleton College with a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and English Literature and a minor in Digital Arts and Humanities.
This summer, she is joining the CHC as a research assistant for three months, working on a variety of projects including metaphor detection in ancient Greek and long-context character tracking in novels.
