Welcome Jes Elgin Jensen - new cloud engineer at CHC

We are delighted to welcome Jes Elgin Jensen to our team, as he officially joined us on October 1st, taking on the role of Cloud Engineer.

Jes graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science from Aarhus University in the summer of 2021, where he developed a keen interest in human-computer interaction, logics, and machine learning. His bachelor's project was centered around explainability in AI. Following his studies, Jes worked as a full-stack developer at Trifork, where he contributed to Bankdata's mortgage web application for advisors and tellers.

Before studying computer science, Jes pursued studies in philosophy at the University of Copenhagen and Friedrich-Schiller-Universität in Jena, Germany. His philosophical pursuits focused on epistemology, logics, philosophy of science, and phenomenology.

On a personal note, Jes is 31 years old and has a passion for rap music production in his spare time.

In his new role as Cloud Engineer, Jes Elgin will play a crucial role in overseeing, developing, and implementing applications for research at the DeiC Interactive HPC Facility, also known as UCloud. This facility has seen remarkable success, and the creation of this new Cloud Engineer position has been long overdue due to the growing demand for app development and customization.

Hiring Jes as a Cloud Engineer marks an important step for Aarhus University, particularly the Faculty of Arts, in contributing to app development for DeiC Interactive HPC. Historically, this responsibility has primarily rested with the Interactive HPC back office at SDU. Establishing our own back office function aligns with Aarhus University's obligations as a partner in the DeiC Interactive HPC Consortium. It also represents an investment in tailoring the facility to the specific needs of Aarhus University users, which includes a diverse group of researchers, particularly from the humanities, and numerous student users.

Jes's presence as a dedicated Cloud Engineer to serve the needs of Arts researchers is a game-changer, and it will also improve the experience of our student users by providing them with access to high-quality computational resources and student-specific apps.

Jes is now a part of the CHC management team, and he will also take on the role of team lead for the future cloud engineering team at CHC. Among his initial responsibilities will be the recruitment of the first junior cloud engineer to join his team.

We are excited about the valuable contributions Jes will make to our organizations (Interactive HPC, Faculty of Arts and CHC) and the opportunities his expertise will bring to our team and the wider university community.
